Danielle Walsh Joins Stonehill College Theatre Company Spring Production of "Faust"

2016 Apr 14

Several Stonehill students, including Danielle Walsh, make up the cast of the Stonehill Theatre Company's spring production "Faust," which runs April 14-16 at the College's Hemingway Theatre.

The new adaptation is an updated portrayal of the 13th century legend that tells the story of a modern college student who no longer believing in such things, sells his soul. Adjunct Professor of Visual & Performing Arts Theresa Lang will direct the modern and timeless tale.

In the original tale of the story, "Faust" is bored and depressed with his life as a scholar. After an attempt to take his own life, he calls on the Devil for further knowledge and magic powers with which to indulge all the pleasure and knowledge of the world. In response, the Devil's representative, Mephistopheles, appears. He makes a bargain with Faust: Mephistopheles will serve Faust with his magic powers for a set number of years, but at the end of the term, the Devil will claim Faust's soul, and Faust will be eternally damned.

An ensemble-driven production, The Stonehill Theatre Company's "Faust" features choreography, musical composition, and costume design by students, and a more collaborative approach to performance.
