Stonehill's Emily Iverson Selected For Teach For America Program

2015 May 1

Emily J. Iverson, a member of the graduating Class of 2015 at Stonehill College in Easton, Mass., has been selected to join the Teach For America Program.

Iverson, who is studying Psychology & French at Stonehill, will be stationed in Oklahoma beginning next fall.

The Teach For America Program enlists high-achieving college graduates and professionals to teach for at least two years in low-income communities throughout the United States. The highly selective program accepts about 15 percent of its applicants each year.

"She will bring the leadership, grit, and resilience skills she has cultivated on the court into the classroom with her this fall," says Teach For America Campus Communications Manager Elora Tocci.

At Stonehill, Iverson has served as captain of the volleyball team, earning an NCAA All-American Honorable Mention. She was also named the Northeast-10 Conference Player & Setter of the Year as well as to the NCAA East Region All-Region team and the NE-10 All-Conference First Team.

She was recently inducted into the Stonehill College Honor Society, Lambda Epsilon Sigma, which honors juniors and seniors who have attained a 3.5 cumulative grade point average. Acceptance into the society is based on evidence of academic achievement, of a pursuit of learning that extends beyond the classroom environment and of an ability to communicate effectively through writing.
